Wachusett Greenways

 The mission of WG is "Connecting the Wachusett Community with Trails and Greenways." This mission is being fulfilled with the maintenance of the White Oak Trail and the construction of the Mass Central Rail Trail. It is also furthered by the sponsorship of various trail events and outreach and enrichment programs. Wachusett Greenways is an all-volunteer organization with over 400 members, and is funded by private donations as well as grants from the local towns and state government.

The Mass Central Rail Trail   

         The Mass Central Rail Trail (MCRT) is a 104 mile multi-use non-motorized trail being built from Boston to Northampton. Wachusett Greenways is constructing a 32 mile section of the trail that runs through Sterling, West Boylston, Holden, Rutland, Oakham, and Barre.

The Holden Historical Society
Founded in 1967, the Holden Historical Society, Inc. is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that seeks to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret the documents and artifacts of Holden's history. It also presents programs and activists of an historical or general interest to the community.

White Oak Land Conservation Society

White Oak Land Conservation Society holds land in trust to be preserved as open space, through gift or conservation restrictions, and helps landowners who wish to preserve their land. White Oak holdings are maintained as wild life refuges or for public access. We also award grants to schools for educational activities to do with natural history.

Town of Holden
The town of Holden is a small suburban community located in central Massachusetts, just south of the Wachusett Mountain Ski Area and west of the City of Worcester. It was incorporated in 1741 and comprises about 36 square miles and has a population of 15,911 (2000 census). Holden is a residential town with a limited business district and one industrial park. The town is governed by an elected five member board of selectmen and an appointed town manager, and Holden residents still participate in a open town meeting.
